Is boxing a good exercise for weight loss? The short answer... absolutely!

Boxing is an amazing exercise for weight loss for several reasons. 

Firstly one of the challenges for those carrying extra weight is impact. Running, walking and many other activities put a lot of stress on the joints. This is exacerbated by carrying excess weight. Boxing however puts very minimal stress on the joints and it requires no bouncing movements. It is a very comfortable exercise for many people who are carrying excess weight and want to lose it quick. 

A lot has been made recently about high intensity interval training (HIIT) for weight loss. This is due to the fact that not only do you burn calories while exercising, but you can burn extra calories for up to 24 hours after exercise. This is because strenuous physical activity elevates the metabolism. HIIT training can elevate the bodies metabolism higher and for longer due to the intense nature of the exercise. Boxing is one such example of HIIT training. With high intensity intervals of 2-3 minutes with rest in between, it is a great way to strip fat for up to 24 hours post exercise. 

Even just getting out and doing exercise is great for losing weight. However even with the most intense training, no weight loss will occur without a proper healthy and balanced diet. Regular exercise, such as boxing, combined with a proper diet will drastically improve your body, quality of life & energy levels.
